It can be viewed as running away from the military or active duty, if you are called a draft dodger. This term was commonly applied to people who did not want to participate in the Vietnam War. If you are already in service to the military establishment and you run away from the military you are considered AWOL. This is short for â??Absent Without Official Leaveâ??.
