What happens is you are making the space smaller so pressure builds until it is enough to push the water out of the cloth
This cloth will soak up all of the water
When you take an ice out of the freezer, it slowly melts. But some of it re freeze by the ice itself. So the small amount of water in the cloth which is re frozen by the ice when the cloth and ice make contact produces the sticking effect.

I called the number on the back of the package and thy said run the rim where it twist under hot water then use a towel or cloth to twist it.....I ran it under the water twice and then it opened:-)
it could be squeeze or spring unless your talking about to twist cloth for water to come out
