In parts of Austria Christmas will be celebrated in the old way still. It can be a magical time if there is snow around. On Christmas Eve families go to church and then return for a traditional meal which well could be centered around the fish carp. Sachertorte is served as a dessert. After this meal, a bell is rung and then a door is opened to reveal to the children in the household the tree in all its splendor, often with a crib and the scenes from the stable housed below the tree. Presents are given and received, but there are no gifts brought by Santa Claus but by KhristKindle who is a golden haired, winged baby representing the new born Christ.
