The area of connection is known as the thermostat housing. Squeeze the two tabs on the radiator hose clamp using a pair of pliers and pull the hose off of the thermostat housing. Remove the bolts which hold the lid to the thermostat housing so the housing can be removed. Remove the thermostat and its gasket from the housing. Clean the mating surfaces of the thermostat housing and lid. Place the new thermostat in the housing and attach the gasket making sure that the spring end of the thermostat sits in the housing and the pin is facing out. Put the lid in place and secure it with the proper bolts. Replace the radiator hose on the thermostat housing and reclamp it.
