My kids all time favourite acttiivy was water play. I'd half fill a shallow tub container with water and provide cups, an extra container for pouring into, strainers, spoons, ladels etc. This would keep them occupied for ages and encourage fine motor skills, and creativity. Its best to place the container on a kids table or plastic chair so they can play while standing and its safer as the 8 month old can't crawl into it.When he's bored with this you can give him a paint brush and getting him to paint outside with the left over water, it'll buy you another 10-20 minutes.This is a free acttiivy using the things you already have, you can make things a little more interesting with some food colouring or bubbles.
