Laryngotracheomalacia is wear the air-way collapses. It usually causes a stridor noise (sort of like wheezing) when the child breaths in-and-out. As a baby, the child will seem like they are gasping for air. Sometimes it will cause the child a very difficult time to breath and do other acitivites. If so, they may require surgery to fix this. They usually use laser to just strenthen the trachea and larynx lining so the air-way stops closing. If children are not having an issue, the children usually grow out of it by 2. Somtimes it isn't an issue at all and you can't notice they have it.
This is written by a mom, whose child has had laryngotraheomalacia since birth and never had any issues or needed surgery. My child is almost 2 and still has this and she is perfectly fine.
