Why did the christians split from the Jews?
Christians believe in Jesus as the Messiah that the Jews are still waiting for. They both believe in Jehovah, the one true God. There is a separation from the "The Law", the instructions given by Moses. The Jews still adhere to the Law, and Christians belive in the new covenant through Jesus Christ, which is that Jesus is the sacrifice for our sins. That we are no longer bound by the law, because Jesus is the eternal sacrifice. That is not to say that the Law has lost all of it's value. It is the strict restrictions that bind you to the Law that have been cast off. It is a set of directions for right living, but the leagalism behind it is not binding for followers of Christ. The Abrahamic religions, including Judaism and Christianity, recognize The nation of Israel as the chosen people of God. Followers of Christ recognize and believe that, and have been grafted in to the family of God even though they are not Jewish, and have now (according to them) been called his chosen as well. Judaism and Christianity are tied together by the claim that there is one true God, and to worship any other is to deny Him. Jews believe that The Messiah is coming; Christians explain that The Messiah has come and is coming again.
