Mandarin language comes from the Han dynasty and is used as the common language of China. It is also refered to as Standard Chinese ( like news readers would use ). However there are many dialects in China , some of which sound nothing like Mandarin but are written exactly the same. Mandarin is also called Putonghua or Hanyu by the chinese. They mean Standard Language and Han Tongue respectively.

The name most used for it in Chinese is Zhong Wen , Chinese Language or literally Middle Language. China itself is called Zhong Gou which means Middle Country.
