hi,

Well, PICOBLAZE and MICROBLAZE are embedded soft core RISC processors from Xilinx for their FPGAs. P.B is an 8-bit micro controller s.c and M.B is a 32-processor soft core. These core are I.P s and won't appear in our designs unless we enable it(in CoreGen).

These cores use the glue logic in your FPGA and become available by enabling, leaving some space for your design and routing. i.e one can use an entire FPGA logic for your design when you don not need theses processor cores.

NIOS is a soft core from ALTERA for their FPGAs.

POWER PC is an Embedded 32-bit RISC processor hard core in Virtex family FPGAs which is designed by removing some CLB and embedding the POWER PC core. Here the hardcore consumes your FPGA resources even though you do not use them in your design. This core is physically available-hence hardcore.

Thanks

RAVISANKAR.

What is the operating system used in micro controllers?

Microsoft Windows Vista But seriously... There's so single answer. A microcontroler is a special purpose microprocessor that contains not only a CPU but also a quantity of RAM and ROM, PROM, EPROM, EEPROM, and/or flash memory plus interface circuits for a substantial number of digital I/O lines and usually some analog inputs. The term microcontroller is also somtimes applied to devices built around microcontroller chips and incorporating power circuitry and an interface to a host computer and sometimes other features on a circuit board with some means of physically connecting to the microcontroler's I/O lines. Viewed in the terms of general purpose computers they are very low powered, but they are sufficient to control many things in the physical world. Most have no operating system at all, though they are likely to have software in ROM for communicating with the host. One thing you can be sure of is that they do not run Microsoft Windows Vista (or even XP ;-)
