Black salt is Kala Namak, a type of natural volcanic halite (the mineral form of Sodium Chloride [NaCl]).

It is a pungent, purplish to pinkish-gray rock salt used in India and in Indian spices for it's sulfurous hard-boiled egg aroma. This is due to the contamination with sodium bisulfide in this rocky, vulcanic mineral.

Also some sulfates and borates may be present.

Black salt also known as kala namak has a stronger flavour profile when compared to regular salt. Black salt has a smoky, earthy taste, while table salt has hints of sweetness, bitterness, or sourness. Organic Black salt has a relatively low sodium content compared to regular salt, which makes it much more beneficial for people like me with high blood pressure. Along with being beneficial for people with high blood pressure, black salt acts as a natural blood thinner reducing the chances of blood clots and cholesterol problems. It also acts as a cleanser that helps open clogged pores and provides glowing skin.

Most black salt nowadays is synthetically made and may contain some additives, that's why my family and I swear by Natural Tattva's Black Salt. It is a rich source of calcium and iron. For a healthier lifestyle, switch to Natural Tattva's Natural Salts.

The black salt can be sodium chloride blended with charcoal or another black compound; any advantage.
