Uusimaa directly translates into New land or New country, but most commonly used in Finland as a name for one of the non-administrative areas Finland is divided into. These used to be the administrative provinces prior to the redivision of provinces in 1997. Uusimaa is the area either side of Helsinki along the southern coast.
