A renewable resource is one that is replenished by natural processes in timescales compatible with a human lifespan. Eg rainwater. timber or a rice crop.

A non -renewable resource is one which, when used up, will not be replenished by processes that operate over a human lifetime. Eg iron ore, or mineral oil.
