One form of positive feedback involves water vapour, which is a greenhouse gas. As the temperature rises, the air absorbs more water vapour, which in turn raises the temperature a little further. Fortunately, the feedback is not sufficient to cause a runaway greenhouse effect.

Another feedback loop that might reinforce global warming is the melting of the permafrost in Siberia, Canada and Alaska. The permafrost holds enormous quantities of carbon as frozen vegetation. Should this melt, it will rot anaerobically, producing methane, a greenhouse gas twenty times as potent as carbon dioxide. This can produce a runaway greenhouse effect that would be beyond the power of humans to control.

The albedo effect can provide positive feedback for global warming when sea ice melts. Sea ice reflects more sunlight than does open water, so when it melts the sea tends to warm a little, causing still more sea ice to melt.

Some results of global warming contribute to global warming, is is called a positive feedback loop.

For example, warm water can absorb less carbon dioxide than cold water. If the ocean surface warms up, the ocean becomes less effective as a carbon sink.

Another major problem is that permafrost areas contain a lot of organic material that can start to rot and give off methane once temperatures rise above the freezing point. Methane is a much more effective greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

A third problem is snow and ice cover tends to reflect much more sunlight back into space than exposed soil, rock or oceans. Once sea ice melts or land loses snow or glacier cover it heats up more from sunlight, warming up air and accelerating the process in nearby areas.

All of these taken together can cause a run-away effect on global warming if not kept to a minimum level.

A:Positive feedback means that something increases because something has happened from that increase. (A teacher praises a student for good work. So the student works harder. So the teacher praises again. And the student works harder.)

In climate change a warmer atmosphere can hold more moisture. More moisture retains more greenhouse gases. This makes the atmosphere warmer. The warmer atmosphere can hold more water... Etc. This loop is called positive feedback.

Another example is the albedo effect. This means that white icy areas, like sea ice, reflect the sun's heat. As that ice melts, the darker ocean below gets warmer. Because the ice is no longer there, global temperature rises.

Another example is global warming releasing Arctic methane. Scientists have found plumes of methane gas bubbling up from the ocean floor, as methane hydrate (frozen water and methane combined) melts and releases the methane. The methane increases the warming, which means that more methane is released.

Something happens, like Arctic ice melting. The ice used to reflect the radiation, but now that it has gone, global warming gets worse because the dark ocean absorbs, not reflects the radiation.

What is a global warmig?

I have no idea what global warmig is. But global warming is a warming of the globe - or Earth - by a variety of causes including man-made emissions. Currently the latter is what is meant by the phrase global warming. Global Warmig has been changed to Climate Change. They are covering their bets. This way when the warmig hoax is proven, they will all say "We support Change" As if we did not allready know the warmig (flat earthers) were obama suporters...

What is meant by hazards of global warming?

Hazards means dangers. One hazard of global warming is the melting of ice caps and glaciers, which makes water levels to rise, so that there is a danger low level lying areas will get submerged in the rising waters.

What is the difference between positive feedback and negative feedback?

Positive feedback speeds up reactions while negative feedback slows them down. Positive feedback goes with the force that put the body out of homeostasis in order to get it over faster. For example, during childbirth, the body goes with it in order to get it over faster so that the body can return to homeostasis. On the other hand, negative feedback opposes the action. For example if your body temperature drops, your receptors in your body send a message to your brain to tell it your cold. Your brain then sends a message to your muscles to shiver to help warm you up.

Is global warming a made up issue?

Yes it is factual. However, the term "global warming" is misused. What is meant by scientists is actually "climate change". It is quite obvious that the worlds climate is changing drastically, as you can have constant flooding in one area, but a few km away, they are experiencing drought. Even the storms (hurricane Katrina) have become more violent. The term "global warming" characterizes this change because the last decade has been the warmest decade ever recorded.

Would global warming have gotten worse if you had not invented gasoline fueled engines?

No, the opposite is true. The invention of the combustion engine meant that the fossil fuel, oil, was burnt, and is still being burnt in vehicles all around the world. So global warming would not be so far advanced if we had found other ways of propulsion.

If global warming stopped right now what would the earth go through?

It would go through about 50 years of rebalancing for the global temperatures, and about 400 years for the oceans to notice the change and balance out. Global warming however is not something which stops, it is just part of nature. I am assuming you meant if man went totally 'green' and stopped polluting completely.
