The diploid cell is one wherein each chromosome has its homologous counterpart for pairing during meiosis. Diploid cells are formed by gametic union and after completion of meiosis in a diploid cell haploid cells are formed. These haploid cells get converted into gametes to unite again to form the diploid cell.

If diploid is 2N and haploid is 1N then triploid is 3N.

N=the number of pairs of chromosomes.

In humans N is 23 the contents of reproductive cells produced by meiosis

2N in humans is 46 the contents of a standard cell produced by mitosis

3N in humans would be 69.

Single chromosomes can be triploid and generally result in non-viable offspring or

individuals with diminished physical and/or mental ability.

Ploidy refers to the number of complete chromosomal sets. Triploid means an organism has 3 complete sets of chromosomes, each set containing a set of genes that codes for the exact same traits, but may differ in a few base pairs here and there (different alleles).

What is a polypoid organism?

an organism with more sets of chromosomes than is natural. IE a fruit is supposed to be diploid (2n), however some flies might gain another set of chromosomes to make it triploid (3n).

If the diploid number of a plant is ten how many chromosomes would you expect to find in its triploid offspring?

If the diploid number of the plant is ten, then its haploid number is 5. Since triploid refers to three times the haploid number, then a triploid plant would have 15 chromosomes.

Why are yellow bananas called triploid organisms?

Triploid organisms are normally sterile as their lack of homologous chromosomes prevents pairing during meiosis. This can be useful to plant breeders, for example in banana cultivation: sterile triploid bananas can be propagated asexually and will not contain any seeds.
