From the way I have seen this term used, it seems to refer to the Love Interest as a major element in a plot. Many nineteenth-century writers was suspicious of the Love Interest motive, did not use it as such, or had it watered down to Long-lost relatives- such as the sister of Ben-Hur in the novel by that name who was in a Leper Colony prior to her being cured by Christ. I think the term is of Scandinavian origin. Lois Lane is an obvious Solweig motif for Superman.
