If you are thinking of going on a mechanical engineering course, then i would definatly encourage you to go. I started mechanical engineering at Bradford college 2 years ago and it is sooo interesting. I finish this year though :(. The course intails of two types OS mechanical engineering, but you need both.

You have the practicle side, where you be in the workshop making a whole range of components, using a milling machine, a lathe and then making components by hand, with a file, or a drill or whatever will be required.

And then you have the theory side, which is very interesting, you study mathematics, mechanical principles, communications, inspection, CAM, CAD, CNC, and you get involved with everything and every body works as a team in the class answering questions, it is brilliant.

I would recommend, depending on your age, you try for an apprenticship, as to be fully qualified in this industry, does take some time, and it is better if you can be getting paid at the same time.
