Medical pluralism is the name given to the situation where a patient has a number of choices when selecting a system of treatment. The term was coined specifically to describe the treatement avenues available in the early modern age i.e. Barbershop Surgeons, Apothecaries, Physicians or Wise women/village elders. A person suffering from illness or disease could choose from these potential treatement sources or in fact choose them all. Medical Pluralism.
