Momentum is a constant.

The momentum before and after an interaction is the same. E,g. a pool ball with momentum P=mV, the momentum after hitting a second ball is the same mv11 +m2v21 = m1v12 + m2v22 . If v21 is zero the momentum balance is still the same on both sides of the equality., teh momentum is constant..
