Medical school would be more competitive. However, you should not choose a career path based on competition. You base your career path on passion; a love for what you want to do, and the benefit it will bring to others as well as yourself. Thus, it should have nothing to do with competition. It should have everything to do with passion.

How long does it take to become an anesthetist?

Becoming an anesthetist typically requires a significant commitment of time and education. After completing a bachelor's degree (usually 4 years), prospective anesthetists must attend medical school, which takes an additional 4 years. Following medical school, they must complete a residency program in anesthesiology, which typically lasts about 4 years. In total, it generally takes around 12 years of education and training after high school to become a fully qualified anesthetist.

How competitive is admission to direct medical school after high school?

Within the United States, you must have a bachelor's degree with the appropriate prerequisites completed.

What is the direct medical program?

Typically, a high schooler would apply to an undergraduate school with any given major, do premed, and then apply to medical school. A direct medical program though, a high school student can just apply to that program and then go straight to that same school's medical school without having to apply. The high school student then wouldn't have to worry about whether he or she would get into a medical school, because medical schools are extremely competitive.

What grade point average do you need to be a neurologist?

You only need to pass med school. The person who graduates last in his medical school is still called doctor. Being a neurologist comes for your residency training after medical school, and therefore has no specific requirements of its own other than graduating from medical school and an internship. By the by the only real requirement for medical school is that you get accepted, and to do that you really only need a bachelors degree and a good MCAT score. However, once you have completed medical school and internship you may find that neurology is a competitive field to a residency spot for.

How hard is it to become a anesthesiologist?

Hard. It's very competitive to get into medical school. Once you get into medical school you are essentially competing with a class full of students just as motivated and dedicated as you. Only the top tier students in medical school will be able to specialize in areas such as anestheiology. If it's your dream to become one, stay dedicated and work as hard as you can - everything will fall in place.

Why is it so hard to get into medical school?

Medical school is very competitive probably for a lot of reasons. The curriculum in medical schools is not easy and becoming a physician takes a lot of commitment and a lot of time (several years). To be competitive for medical school, it is very important that a candidate have a high GPA, a strong background in the sciences, research involvement can be helpful, and excellent scores on the MCAT. Experience/exposure to the medical field is often highly regarded and shadowing experience is often looked upon favorably. Letters of recommendation can be an important component of a medical school application as well and should only be written by the appropriate people such as a science professor and should be from someone who definitely knows you well enough to write a personable letter. The medical field is a profession that a lot of people want to be a part of and contributes to the competition of getting into medical school along with the high expectations medical students have for applicants.
