(The mandatory Detroiter's rant: It's a large city, so no, it is probably not the "safest" place to stay. I could not consider Los Angeles, Chicago, or New York among the "safest" areas either. Most of the violence that gives Detroit a bad reputation nationally can be linked to illicit drugs or gang activity. If you are not in a gang and if you do not purchase illicit drugs within the city limits, you'll be fine. It's not exactly Medellin, Baghdad, or Grozny.) There are a lot of good hotels in Detroit. Most are clustered in the downtown area around Woodward and Jefferson Ave. That's a safe and walkable area. Extended stay hotels are going to be located in the inner-ring suburbs. Chances are, if you are booking a hotel yourself or if your business is putting you up at a hotel, you'll be staying in a nice area and will have an enjoyable time.
if you are in the outskirts of Detroit then no that's where all the shootings and no jobs are. if you are in downtown, midtown, eastern market. or Lafitte park and elm park it is very safe i have been there plenty of times. the only problem you will have is people asking you for money
I heard it had the riots and the shootings and genocides so PROBABALY!
No more than any other metropolis city. I was born there and have been back several times and never came across any dangerous activity.
