Best Answer

For liquids to solidify, the temperature of the liquid must be below its freezing point. Every substance has a different freezing point. For example, water's freezing point is 0 degrees Celsius. At 1 degree, it will be a liquid. If you cool it down to -1, it will solidify.

What are the three properties of liquid?

The basic properties of any liquid are that it has a definite volume, it takes the shape of its container, it is not compressible and its elements and molecules are not in fixed positions. Liquids, in general, show expansion when they are heated. Liquids also, in general, will contract when they are cooled. Unlike solids, two liquids will mix together and diffuse into each other to make a new type of liquid. A liquid will turn into a gas or a solid, depending upon the forces exerted on it. A liquid heated to a high enough temperature will vaporize and turn into a gas. A liquid cooled far enough will solidify.

Why isn't plasma a state of matter?

Plasma is a state of matter. However it only happens at such high temperature and is so different from the other three states of matter, that it is usually omitted from lower level physics classes. The mathematics needed to analyze plasma (electromagnetohydrodynamics or quantum electromagnetohydrodynamics) is far more complicated than the mathematics needed to analyze gases or liquids (fluid dynamics), making plasma far harder to understand.

How does solids liquids and gases react to temperature?

Magnitude in thermal expansion is how much the substance can expand, so, the relative order of magnitude of thermal expansion is: solid<liquid<gases. Gases expand more than liquid, and liquid more than solid.
