What is nesomania?

Monomania is an abnormal obsession with a single thought or idea. Monomania in psychiatry means a type of paranoia in which the patient has only one idea or type of ideas. It's emotional and the patient is obsessed with one emotion or several related to it. Example: A person is obsessed with someone of the opposite sex and may follow them, steal small items of that persons or even enter their home when the victim is not there. The additional paranoia for the patient is seeing the person they are obsessed with out with another woman/man and may even do harm to that person. A good example of this was the movie called 'Play Misty for Me.' Clint Eastwood was a disc jockey and a fan who would call in to have the song 'Play Misty for Me' had a great obsession over him and she took over his life ever so coyly he didn't know what hit him. She would threaten suicide and tried. When he thought he had gotten rid of her there she would be again. When his ex girlfriend came back into his life she was threatening his girlfriend. Some people with Monomania may silently obsess and do no harm to the person they are obsessed over.

Then there are Monomania patients that obsess over career and are paranoid someone is stealing their job, or, the obsessed person may try to cause problem for coworker so they will be fired. In other words, Monomania can come in many different forms of obsession. = =

Nesomania is a term used to describe a strong obsessive interest in collecting or hoarding items related to the Japanese company Nintendo, especially Video Games and merchandise. It is a portmanteau of "Nintendo" and "mania."
