FAAN can mean two different things: If it is preceded by MD (MD, FAAN) then it means Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. It is a title given to neurologists and neurosurgeons who have shown great skill. If, instead, RN precedes it, (RN, FAAN) then it means Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. This is a title given to those skilled in nursing.
Why is it called a nervous system when from what I can see.. it has nothing to do with being nerous?
Like various other medical specialties, neurology is another specialty. It deals with the treatment of disorders related to the nervous system. Neurology covers central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous system. Physicians opting neurology are called Neurologists, and those neurologists who opt for surgical education in this specialty are known Neuro surgeons. However, it is essential to fathom that Neurology and Neuroscience are two different things and can not be used interchangeably.
