Nondestructive testing is when you test an item without destroying or changing it. A great deal of the time when tests are conducted, the tests require a piece of the item or the entire item. Take DNA testing for example. DNA IS a destructive test because it requires a piece of person's body. It could be skin cells or blood. Once the test is conducted, there is none or very little of the item left because the test has destroyed or changed it. Nondestructive testing would be an X-ray or CT scan or even using a voltage meter to check the current running through a circuit. The test doesn't require the destruction of the item and the item is left how it was found. Leaving the item unchanged after a test is nondestructive testing.
