In the yesteryears of outboards, compression readings of 150 - 180 lbs were common. Today, for 2 stroke models, readings of 110 - 130 are average. Basicly, anything over 100 psi is good, with no more than 15 psi variance between the highest, and the lowest cylinder readings.
between 90-120
150-160 PSI
Just did compression test on mine and the normal seems to be 160 -180

100 psi to 140 psi.
My truck runs about 140 psi, but was rebilt recently. 120psi is normal for a truck with normal wear.
Anywhere from 80, up to 180, depending on ther compression ration, effective compression ratio, and how many miles on the motor. Lower than about 80, is getting low. Also, you are looking for a cylinder that is really low, compared to the rest. 30 lbs., or more, lower. This would indicate a dead cylinder.
A box compression tester is a machine that measures the size and quality of boxes. It uses a variety of techniques to test the strength, durability, and compression of boxes. The box compression tester can also be used to test the strength and compression of packaging materials. Most manufacturers use this type of machine to test the quality of the boxes they use to ship their products.
The lowest reading cylinder should not be less than 70% of the highest and no cylinder reading should be less than 689 kPa (100 psi). Perform compression test with engine at normal operating temperature, spark plugs removed and throttle wide open

Reverse failts are caused by compression. Normal faults however are formed by tension.
yes mercury made a 260hp engine. it is a 2.5 ltr v6 2 stroke, the early carby models made 245hp, then went efi which made 260hp at the prop, 7500rpm redline. then they bought out the same block with different porting and electrics around 1999ish. this engine made 280hp @ the prop. these engine are race engines. not your normal fishing outboard
