The ability to draft new soldiers for the Union war effort was enormous. With a distinct shortage of Northern volunteers, US President Lincoln ordered the drafting of 500,000 men to serve in the military. He made this proclamation in early February of 1864 and expected results by early March. The terms of service would either be three years or for the duration of the war.

In order to continue to field armies for battles in the US Civil War, the Confederacy required the supply of food and weapons for its armies. The Union did all it could to cut off and deny the South access to the supplies it needed. One method was the Union's blockade of major Southern ports. This worked to a degree, however, supply ships were able to sneak past Union blockading efforts. The other method the Union used was the strategy of what is now called "exhaustion" . What this meant was that Union armies targeted civilian farms that were sources of supply to the Confederacy. All products that could be used to keep Confederate armies in the field were destroyed, even though this was civilian property. Also, the Union cut Southern rail links used to transport supplies and armies.
The United States (referred to as the Union ) had a clear advantage over the Confederacy in the following areas:A. The Union had a standing navy to help blockade Southern ports and provide the ability to move infantry to Southern ports they controlled or fought to control;B. The Union had a standing army. With a larger population then the Southern States, the Union had the ability to field larger armies;C. The Union had a better railway system then the South. This allowed the Union to bring troops to battle areas with speed;D. The Union had farmlands and livestock to better supply its armies with food;E. The Union had a strong manufacturing base to supply weapons and other materials needed to supply its armies.F. The Union, being a recognized nation in the world had the ability to borrow in the international markets;G. The Union had a larger internal tax base with which to raise funds from its large population base and from its farm and manufacturing groups.
Based on the small white population of the South, the Confederacy had the ability to recruit effectively and create field armies that truly tested the strength of Union armies. Despite enormous odds, the Confederacy was able to battle the North for four years. This was remarkable in light of the fact that the North had about 23,000,000 people versus the South's 11 million, four million or so were slaves.
The ratio was 2.64 union soldiers for every confederate soldier. NEW RESPONDENT The most optimistic calculations give as an overall ratio between the two armies, in terms of men employed on the field of 1,50-1,75 Union soldiers for every Confederate.
Having a larger population was an advantage for the Union during the Civil War because it provided a greater pool of manpower for military enlistment, allowing the Union to field larger armies. This demographic advantage also supported industrial and logistical capabilities, enabling the production of weapons, supplies, and equipment at a scale that the Confederacy struggled to match. Additionally, a larger population meant a broader tax base to fund the war effort and sustain the economy. Overall, these factors contributed to the Union's ability to sustain a prolonged conflict.
The Union had several field armies, including the Army of the Potomac. After McClellan it was commanded by Ambrose Burnside, Joseph Hooker, George Meade. When Grant came east he was made general in chief over all Union armies, but made his HQ with the Army of the Potomac and traveled with it. Meade remained in command of the Army of the Potomac, but had Grant right with him, supervising.
In most structured armies it is the rank of 'Field Marshal'.
The ability to have an ample supply of salt became a problem for the Confederacy. Salt was a necessary diet product, but was vital to preserving foods for Confederate field armies. This became a critical matter that required the the utmost attention.
When General US Grant was in total command of Union forces, he came to the conclusion that was the same as other military experts at the time. Grant agreed with Union's view that defeating an enemy in a decisive field battle was next to impossible. The strategy of attrition differs from that of exhaustion in that the former is geared to directly defeat the enemy in detail if necessary in open field confrontation.Grant believed that a operational strategy of exhaustion was the best avenue to end the Southern rebellion. Grant's use of exhaustion relied upon the Union to destroy the South's logistical support. Lacking this, the Confederate armies would be reduced in their ability to be effective.
They can but only in Apocalypse battles as most titans are very expensive. For example the Reaver Titan is around 1400 points so generally most people play them in 3000+ battles. I believe most armies have a "Super Unit." The necrons have their C'tan. The imperial guard and space marines have Titans, orks the squiggoth etc. Those that don't either have an unparrelled ability to field hordes of units to make up for it, or very tough units. Hope this helps.
Yes there r 30 people on the field in a rugby union field. 15 one team 15 of the other team.
