Carbon monoxide (CO) is a chemical compound composed of the elements carbon and oxygen in a one-to-one ratio.
If you think to cobalt this is a chemical element.If you think to carbon monoxide this is only one molecule.

The chemical symbol for the carbon monoxide molecule is CO. i am a college level chemistry student and that 7th grader was wrong.The chemical symbol C would represent Carbon. Carbon Monoxide- CO. Carbon Dioxide- CO2. It's that simple.
Two in carbon MONoxide (1 Carbon + 1 Oxygen -->MONO-oxide ) Three in carbon DIoxide (1 Carbon + 2 Oxygen -->DIoxide )
1 x carbon and 1 x oxygen molecule carbon and monoxide monoxide is one oxygen molecule
there is one atom of oxygen in Carbon monoxide (CO) i.e. half molecule of oxygen.
Carbon monoxide is a molecule consisting of one oxygen atom and one carbon atom.
Carbon monoxide contain one atom of carbon and one atom of oxygen.

1:1, carbon monoxide is one carbon atom and one oxygen atom.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a chemical compound composed of the elements carbon and oxygen in a one-to-one atomic ratio.
If you think to cobalt this is a chemical element.If you think to carbon monoxide this is only one molecule.
NO!!! The word 'monoxide' indicates that a substance, NOT an element, has one(1) oxygen in its formula. e.g. Carbon monoxide (CO) or Nitrogen monoxide (NO)

It is sort of tricky question. One molecule of carbon can combine with only one molecule of oxygen. It can not combine with two molecules of oxygen. Incidentally one molecule of carbon is composed of one atom of carbon. One molecule of oxygen is composed of two atoms of oxygen.
