One possible interpretation of it is the foolishness of humankind to try and assume the powers of God. Daedalus succeeded in his attempts to fly with home-made wings, but was careful in his flight not to get to close to the Sun. His son Icarus got carried away, DID fly too close to the Sun despite his father's warnings, which resulted in the wax holding the feathers together in his wings to melt and for him to fall to his death. If the Sun represents God, Daedalus can be taken to represent the sensible and humble aspect of humanity that makes no assumptions that it is equal to Him and respects it's place in the hierarchy of Creation, whereas Icarus can be taken to be the arrogant, know-all aspect of humanity that believes that it can discount God as the final almighty power and meets a sticky end as a result. It's a bit like a diluted version of Milton's 'Paradise Lost'.

Icarus flies too close to the sun, and the wax holding his wings together melts. -
The mythological story of Icarus is that he was the son of Daedalus. His father crafted him a set of wings so he could fly. He was warned to not fly too close to the sun. He ignored the warning and fell out of the sky and into the sea where he drowned.
The point of view is for Daedalus and Icarus to escape. -Rosie
A possible theme of Ovid's "The Story of Daedalus and Icarus" is the consequences of hubris and disobedience. The narrative highlights the dangers of overreaching and not following instructions, as both Daedalus and Icarus suffer the tragic outcomes of their actions due to their disregard for warnings. Additionally, the story emphasizes the importance of moderation and humility to avoid calamity.
