In Amy Tan's "The Joy Luck Club," Jing-Mei Woo is hesitant about going to China to meet her siblings for the first time. The club members, who were her mother's good friends, provide the money for her to go to China and tell her twin sisters about their mother. Jing-Mei and her mother had communication, cultural and generational problems which made her believe she really didn't know her mother well enough to tell them anything.
