Following that came the 2 European civilizations of Ancient Greece, and ancient Rome. After that came the Mayans, Aztecs, and the new patterns of civilization. To the east lies the Pacific Ocean. Natural barriers helped to protect ancient China from invasion. The barriers also limited China's contacts with other civilizations.
