The "greenhouse effect" is a manufactured controversy used to describe the behavior of sunlight to penetrate the atmosphere and to heat the Earth, but not allow heat to escape. This is widely used by alarmists to claim that humans are responsible for releasing "greenhouse gases" into the atmosphere which heighten the effect.
Carbon dioxide, the supposed culprit in the "greenhouse effect" has very little effect in trapping heat; water vapor is far more significant a factor. On cloudy nights, the water vapor in the clouds prevents heat from radiating out from the Earth, but on clear nights, temperatures fall quickly because of radiation.
If scientists wanted to prevent heat from reaching the Earth, one technique would be to spread dust high in the atmosphere to reflect the sunlight before it ever hits the Earth. This happens naturally when volcanoes erupt, throwing tons of ash into the stratosphere, After the 1815 eruption of the volcano Krakatoa, global temperatures were depressed by several degrees, causing crop failures and famines the following year.
Carbon dioxide helps the greenhouse in one way. Plants in the greenhouse needs carbon dioxide to grow.
A one-way valve allows flow in only one direction. The greenhouse effect involves the atmosphere allowing solar energy in, but not allowing (some of) the resulting heat back out.
The greenhouse effect is the natural way that the Earth keeps warm. Too many extra greenhouse gases turn the greenhouse effect into an enhanced greenhouse effect. The enhanced, or accelerated, greenhouse effect is causing global warming.
Humans (or rather their activities) are the CAUSE of the greenhouse effect. The only way to stop it is to reduce human activity and ultimately (although politicians never say it) this means LESS humans on the planet. So if you really want to help don't have any children yourself and persuade others you know to stop having children too.
Saying the greenhouse effect is like a one-way valve means that while it allows sunlight to enter the Earth's atmosphere and warm the planet, it also traps some of the heat that would normally escape into space, leading to an overall increase in temperature. This is similar to a valve that lets water flow in one direction but restricts it from flowing back, resulting in a buildup of pressure.
The only way to reduce the greenhouse effect is to actually remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The only way to do this is to plant trees. Trees remove carbon dioxide through photosynthesis. Some people plant trees to reduce the greenhouse effect.
Biologically, 'too much' of it is toxic [poisonous or lethal]; while environmentally, too much of it is [only] one cause of the Greenhouse Effect.
The greenhouse effect is now an "accelerated" greenhouse effect. In other words it is warming rapidly and causing global warming. So we need to manage it by reducing the amounts of greenhouse gases that are being added to it. Most of these are being added by burning fossil fuels. The only way to stop this is to move to renewable energy.Solar, wind, water, etc are all sources of energy that do not release carbon dioxide emissions.
Nitrogen and oxygen do not cause the greenhouse effect because they are not greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor have properties that enable them to absorb and emit infrared radiation, trapping heat in the earth's atmosphere. Nitrogen and oxygen, although abundant in our atmosphere, do not have the same ability to trap heat in the same way.
The atmospheric gas which is increasing the greenhouse effect is Carbon Dioxide (CO2).A:Several gases cause the natural greenhouse effect that has maintained the temperature of the earth at a comfortable level, suitable for human existence. They include water vapour and carbon dioxide. What is known as the enhanced greenhouse effect is caused by the increased concentration of carbon dioxide that results from human activity. The enhanced greenhouse effect is what is causing global average temperatures to rise, with potentially serious consequences for the environment and human society. Greenhouse gases should not be thought of in the same way as layers of blankets, with one blanket for water vapour, one for carbon dioxide and so on, simply adding to each other. They do not work that way. For example, water vapour is only found in the lower atmosphere, and much heat is lost through convection currents that carry warmth to the upper atmosphere where it is the radiated and lost. Carbon dioxide in the upper atmosphere does block some of this radiation. Even in the lower atmosphere, carbon dioxide blocks infrared radiation at different wavelengths than does water vapour. So it is the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide that has climate scientists most worried.
The "Greenhouse" effect is not referencing the colour green, instead it references the greenhouse, a building erected to allow plants to be grown in a warmer environment. Most greenhouses are built of transparent glass (no colour) and are not green either. The only green associated with the greenhouse building is the colour of the plants inside of them.
Fuel affects the environment in a great way. When fuel is burned it releases CO2 into the air which is a greenhouse gas and contibutes to the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is when these greenhouse gases(such as Co2) trap energy from the sun ,just like in a greenhouse, and raise the temperature of the earth. Thus causing glaciers to melt and ocean currents to change an eventually resulting in the end of the planet. So think about taking your bike for a ride once in a while.
