pH is a shortcut way of expressing the negative log of the hydrogen ion concentration. It's scale is widely malunderstood. People will argue til the cows come home that the scale of pH is from 1 to 14. BUT, since it is theoretically possible to have up to 100% H+, the log of100 is 2 inverting the sign to meet the definition shows that a pH of -2 is possible and is the lowest point on that scale. Since the concentration can also approach zero, the negative log will approach infinity as a limit. However, most pH scales are used as 1 to 14 even though that is NOT technically correct.

14 is used as a neutral solution will have a pH of 7 and a pOH of 7.

How do you determine the pH of each solution?

acidic, neutral, or basic. Salts that form from a strong acid and a weak base are acid salts, like ammonium chloride

Is semen a base or an acid?

Semen has a Ph of about 7.2-8.0, making it slightly base on the Ph scale. It is important to remember that the higher the number, the lower the acidity and the more basic the substance will be.

How will you distinguish an acid from a base?

You can use litmus paper or bromothymol blue and phenol red strips. Use them at the same time and if they turn blue that means the substance is a base. If the strips turn a red or pink color that means it is a acid. If the strips just look like they got wet that means they are neatral.

It is alkaline because it is used to help neutralise the acid produced by the stomach.

Li2O H2O acid or base?

Lithium Oxide is a base because when it is added to an acid for example Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) it is neutralised. Acid + Base is a neutralisation reaction. + Plus look at Arhenius's explanation on the theory of acid reactions and Bronsted lowry's theory on acids and bases. Because somewhere in there they talk about somthing that might help you a bit more if you are not confident with my answer.

Where can one find a balance beam scale?

The best place to find a balance beam scale would be on Amazon. They offer reviews from other purchasers which can help one determine which scale is best.

Are Tums an acid or a base?

Tums is a base. because if it was an acid , it wouldn;t help acid reflux. Tums is not an acid or a base, its main ingredient, calcium carbonate is a salt. The calcium carbonate reacts with the hydrochloric acid in your stomach to form Calcium Chloride, water and Carbon Dioxide gas. 2(HCl) + CaCO3 --> CACl2 + H2O + CO2

Hydrochlorothiazide is a very weak acid. Why is 0.1 N NaOH used to help dissolve hydrochlrothiazide?
