paging in computer terms means that a file if created on your hard drive to act as extra RAM memory when your RAM memory is low.
The problem of many page faults occurring in a short time, called "page thrashing".
If a process tries to access a page which is not present in memory or was not brought into memory. access to such page marked as invalid in page table.

Mac OS Hints and MacInTouch both have information bout the Mac OS X server on their website. Wikipedia also has a page for the Mac Server. For specific questions or to purchase the system you can visit your local Apple Store.
page replacement algorithms decide which memory pages to page out (swap out, write to disk) when a page of memory needs to be allocated. Paging happens when a page fault occurs and a free page cannot be used to satisfy the allocation, either because there are none, or because the number of free pages is lower than some threshold.

A page fault in any operating system will occur when a reference to memory indicates that the actual information has been paged out to disk, and is not available in memory at the present time. When the page fault occurs, the system has to swap that page back into memory before it can reference the memory location. This is how virtual memory was implemented. Page faults should be transparent to the program; it doesn't know or care if the memory was resident or not, since the net effect is to make that memory available to the program, whether it was paged out or not.
