The term 'portable disk' refers to portable memory for a computer that is in the shape of a disk, such as a CD, DVD, or floppy disk. (On a floppy disk the disk part is on the inside)
An example of an obsolete computer part is the Floppy Drive/ Floppy Disk.

A file can be corrupted on a floppy disk any number of ways. Some of the more common ones are whenever you put the floppy disk near a magnet or some other source of ionized metal, if you try and pull the floppy disk out of the tray before the computer is done reading or writing it, or even if you somehow expose the inner part of the floppy disk to any type of electronic device (because of the electromagnetic waves that the electronic device gives off). As to how to retrieve the corrupted file, I don't know of any way to retrieve it.
The floppy drive is what actually does the reading. The information is then sent to the central processor unit (CPU) on the motherboard where it is translated. There is no specific part of a CPU dedicated to floppy drive input.
On a hard drive, CD/DVD, floppy disk, as part of the device's firmware, or over a network with PXE.
At 2.3 MB, there is simply no way to make the Santa Xmas Nightmare game fit onto a 1.44 MB floppy disk as a single file. Using some archiving software, you may be able to split the file into two parts, put each part onto a floppy disk, transfer it to another computer, and reassemble it.
Because floppy disks could only hold tiny amounts of data, only above 1Mb, where as now days memory sticks can hold over 16Gb, over 16,000 times more data. They are also bigger in size too. Most documents and files wouldn't even fit on a floppy, such as MP3 files (songs) which are about 4Mb.
