A scientific theory that explains the properties of solid, liquids and gases, and also that matter are made up of tiny particles. This theory has been out dated by the kinetic molecular theory.

The particle theory is the idea that everything is made up of particles (particles too small to see without a strong microscope). For example- if the particles are close together and can't move around, it is a solid. If on the other hand the particles are much further apart and can move around freely, it is a liquid.
