Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is a medical diagnostic procedure that helps determine if the tubes a copen or blocked. It is done by inserting a dye inside the uterus. If the dye spills inside the fallopian tubes, the x-ray will show what is called free spillage meaning that the fallopian tubes is open. The spill could be loculated, which means that it collects in small puddles of dye. This indicates possible presence of peritubal adhesions on the outside of the fallopian tubes caused by scar tissue fuid up related to endometriosis, pelvic infection, fibroids, etc.
Even if the HSG is a very accurate procedure in determining if a fallopian tube is open, it cannot give any information about structures outside the tube that can possibly distort or affect the function of the tube.
Peritubal adhesions if suspected can be treated with surgery in some cases with success.
There are some alternative therapies that can be utilized to help break sown scar tissue caused by adhesions and help the healthy functioning of the tube. These therapies include, massage, castor oil packs, herbal medicine, herbal detox, herbal tampons, douching, homeopathy, acupuncture and enzymatic therapy.
