Periodic means repeating.

When Mendeleev was rearranging the elements, he noticed that some of their properties matched with one another about every eight elements. Thus, when the elements are arranged in the rows of the Periodic Table, they also have matching properties in each column.

The periodic table is a method of listing elements which groups elements with similar properties together. It was noticed that if the elements were listed in order of Atomic Mass there was a distinctive pattern of characteristics that repeated itself every 8 elements. There were slight imperfections due to the fact that it was not the atomic mass but the nuclear charge that determined the properties (the nuclear charge could not be measured directly but was related closely to the atomic mass)
The modern periodic table was formed by Dmitri Mendeleev. He even left gaps which he (correctly) predicted would be filled by elements not yet discovered.

The word "periodic" means recurring in a predictable pattern. It's the same as a magazine that is published bi-weekly being called a "periodical;" or a woman's menstrual "period," which comes about once a month. On the periodic table, certain properties of elements recur, and if the elements are arranged a certain way, these recurring properties can be organized in a meaningful way that makes predictability and generalizations possible.

periodic means time for chuncks of time. It means that in the periodic table the elements are organized by when they were found, the mass number, the abreviation, the state of matter, etc.

What is the cause of periodicity amongst elements in periodic table?

as the no of valence electrons are same down the group

How did the periodic table get its name?

Based on the periodicity of the elements regarding properties, reactivity, valence electrons, etc.

What are the horizontal collum called in the periodic table?

There seems to be a typo in your question. If you meant a "horizontal row" (left to right) of the periodic table, those are called periods. If you meant a "vertical column" (up and down) of the periodic table, those are called groups.

Is periodicity defined as the fact that elements increase in atomic mass in a regular way?

No, the periodicity of the Periodic Table of Elements refers to the fact that the chemical properties of elements vary in a periodic way, from metals on the left hand side of the table to non-metals and then to noble gases in the far right hand column. Each row goes through the same variations. There is nothing periodic about the increase in mass; that would be described as a linear progression rather than a periodic phenomenon.

What is periodic in the periodic table?

The modern periodic table is modified form of the mossleys periodic table, which was yet modifiied form of the mendileevs periodic table, which was based on the principle-atomic mass is the periodic function of the elements.Mossley changed the periodicity of elements to be the periodic functions of their atomic numbers.hence in the modern periodic table we can find, the repeatation of certain properties of elements after definite intervals and hence the periodic table has groups and periods the elements inside which, are similar.this is possible because across a period electrons increase by 1,keeping shells sama, and down a group, outer electrons remain same, but shells increase by1.
