Petrissage or friction is performed with the ball of the thumb.

The aim is to squeeze the muscle against a bone to stretch and smooth the muscle's fibres releasing muscular tension. Petrissage also causes a localized increase in blood flow, helps t breakdown adipose tissue and adhesions.

Petrissage is very effective in removing toxins from muscles cells. Petrissage causes a localized increase in heat within the cells that makes the muscles body more pliable, efficient, and toned.
