Plumbing is the art and technique of installing pipes, fixtures, and fittings.

Plumbing, from the Latin plumbum for lead, is the skilled trade of working with pipes, tubing and plumbing fixtures for drinking water systems and the drainage of waste. A plumber is someone who installs or repairs piping systems, plumbing fixtures and equipment such as water heaters. The plumbing industry is a basic and substantial part of every developed economy due to the need for clean water, and proper collection and transport of wastes.[1] Plumbing also refers to a system of pipes and fixtures installed in a building for the distribution of potable water and the removal of waterborne wastes. Plumbing is usually distinguished from water and sewage systems, in that a plumbing system serves one building, while water and sewage systems serve a group of buildings or a city. Plumb - the word, is derived from the latin plumbum, which means lead (the metal - element Pb).

Plumbers are therefore lead-workers and plumbing is lead-work.

Of course modern day plumbing is much more widespread than simply lead-work, in fact lead work is often a more specialist area in modern plumbing work.

Plumbing is any system that conveys fluids for a wide range of operations. Plumbing uses pipes, faucets, plumbing institutions, tanks, and other accoutrements to convey fluids.( 1) Heating and cooling( HVAC), waste junking, and drinkable water delivery are among the most common uses for plumbing, but it isn't limited to these operations.( 2) The word derives from the Latin for lead, plumbum, as the first effective pipes used in the Roman period were supereminent pipes.

In the advanced world, plumbing structure is critical to public health and sanitation.

Boilermakers and pipefitters aren't plumbers although they work with pipeline as part of their trade and their work can include some plumbing.

Plumbing began during ancient societies, as they developed public cataracts and demanded to give drinkable water and wastewater junking for larger figures of people.( 6)

The Mesopotamians introduced the world to complexion seamster pipes around 4000 BCE, with the foremost exemplifications set up in the Temple of Bel at Nippur and at Eshnunna,( 7) used to remove wastewater from spots, and prisoner rainwater, in wells. The megacity of Uruk contains the oldest known exemplifications of slipup constructed Latrines, constructed atop hitching fired complexion seamster pipes,c. 3200 BCE.( 8)( 9) complexion pipes were latterly used in the Hittite megacity of Hattusa.( 10) They had fluently divisible and interchangeable parts, and allowed for cleaning.

Formalized earthen plumbing pipes with broad flanges making use of asphalt for precluding leakages appeared in the civic agreements of the Indus Valley civilization by 2700 BC.( 11)

Bobby pipeline appeared in Egypt by 2400 BCE, with the Aggregate of Sahure and touching tabernacle complex at Abusir, set up to be connected by a bobby waste pipe.( 12)

The word" plumber" dates from the Roman Empire.( 13) The Latin for lead is plumbum. Roman roofs used lead in conduits and drain pipes( 14) and some were also covered with lead. Lead was also used for pipeline and for making cataracts.( 15)

Plumbing reached its early apex in ancient Rome, which saw the preface of extensive systems of courses, pipe wastewater junking, and wide use of supereminent pipes. The Romans used supereminent pipe eulogies to help water theft. With the Fall of Rome both water force and sanitation stagnated — or regressed — for well over,000 times. enhancement was veritably slow, with little effective progress made until the growth of ultramodern densely populated metropolises in the 1800s. During this period, public health authorities began pressing for better waste disposal systems to be installed, to help or control pandemics of complaint. before, the waste disposal system had comported of collecting waste and jilting it on the ground or into a swash. ultimately the development of separate, underground water and sewage systems excluded open sewage dikes and sinks.

Inpost-classical Kilwa The fat enjoyed inner plumbing in their gravestone homes.( 16)( 17)
