Pretty much anything poisonous to a human is also poisonous to a guinea pig. Humans can tolerate some mild poisons which guinea pigs can't, however. Members of the nightshades plant family are an example for this; do not feed any part of a tomato plant or fruit, rhubarb or potato to a guinea pig.

Many ornamental flowers such as lilies may also cause harm.
