∙ 14y agoPolar refers to molecules that are polarized, due to the difference of electronegativity of the atoms within the molecule. Electronegativity is the tendency of an atom to pull electrons to itself. Four of the most electronegative elements of the periodic table are F, 0, N, and Cl. In a water molecule (H2O), the element O is very electronegative while H is not. Therefore, this difference of electronegativity causes the molecule to be polarized and the electrons are pulled more towards the O.
