The essential difference between a series circuit and a parallel circuit is the way in which the components are physically connected. In a series circuit there is just a single path that electricity can take, whereas in a parallel circuit there are two or more different paths.

Sure, if you have enough. How fast the battery will charge depends on how many you put in the circuit (the more panels, the more charging power will be available). It isn't as simple as wiring them directly to your battery though, you should use anti-overcharging circuitry and a circuit that will prevent polarity reversal. Ideally, you would want to wire enough panels in series to produce about 14 Volts DC and then wire this series in parallel with at least one other identical 14 Volt DC series.
