welding cast iron is not reccomended although it can be done,myself i have always had the best luck by preheating the cast iron to almost cherry red then using a low hydrogen electrode such as 7018 which is fairly common,there is also an electrode known as inconel which contains the alloy nickel,but its hard to find and very expensive

∙ 12y agoPreheating in welding is when the part is heated prior to welding using a furnace, oxy-fuel torch ect., to ensure a slow enough cooling rate that the part's distortion and heat affected zone is minimal. If the entire part is already at an elevated temperature before welding, after welding the heat affected zone will have no place to release the 'extra' heat because the area adjacent to the HAZ will be at relatively the same temperature. Thus, slowing the cooling rate of the HAZ, preventing a brittle, martensitic weld from forming. That is the purpose of preheating.

This reduces the heat sink affect (rapid cooling) of the deposited weld by the surrounding cold metal. Preheating also significantly reduces the rapid cooldown of the item post welding. How is titanium machined and welded?
Quite like stainless steel. For maching just adapt the parameters (speed, deep...) also depend of the tool. For welding, I heard that you can use the same techniques (TIG, MIG-MAG) as steel but adapt the parameters also (particularly the preheating).
