Circumcision is a religious rite. That involves the removal of the prepuce or foreskin from the penis. This form of mutilation results in the whole of the glans being constantly exposed. modern medical opinion on it is that it is a harmfull practice leading to lessening of sensitivity as well as other problems.

Brutal! Circumcision is the removal of the protective foreskin from the top of the penis. Contrary to the claims of some there are no medical benefits in this procedure. Less then 20 % of the worlds men are circumcised and the vast majority of that number are done because of religious cultural and social pressure. It should also be noted that this form of male genital mutilation is overwhelmingly inflicted on infants that are new born and children who have no say in the mater.

Why is routine infant circumcision so popular?

Infant circumcision is far less popular than it used to be. Apart from within Judaism and Islam, infant circumcision is uncommon everywhere in the world except the United States. Even in the United States, circumcision is far less common than it used to be. In the 1980s up to 80% of newborn males in the United States were circumcised. By 2007, the rate of circumcision had dropped to less than 40%. The large drop is due in part to the recognition that there is no known medical benefit to circumcision.

Is there government assistance for circumcision?

No, government health care programs like Medicaid in the United States or the National Health Service in the UK do not provide infant circumcision since it is not a medically necessary procedure. Circumcision has no known medical benefits, and no major medical association recommends routine infant circumcision. Circumcision caries with it serious risks of adverse outcomes including prolonged bleeding, infection, severe pain, and surgical error that can result in damage to the penis.

Why do people get circumcisions?

There is no medical reason for circumcision, and no major medical association recommends routine circumcision. Circumcision, like any surgery, has risks of adverse medical events including surgical error, severe pain, infection, and prolonged bleeding. Some boys are circumcised for cultural or religious reasons. For example, circumcision is practiced by Jews and in some sects of Islam. Most other religions including Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism do not practice circumcision. While the vast majority of the world's men are uncircumcised, circumcision became a cultural practice in a few countries, for example the United States. Circumcision became popular in the late 19th century as a method to keep young boys from masturbating. Gradually, the practice of routine infant circumcision became widespread in the United States. However, circumcision rates have been declining in the United States for a number of reasons. Among them are that circumcision has no known medical benefit and that circumcision can decrease the sensitivity of the penis during sexual activity. Doctors no longer recommend routine infant circumcision, and as a result the rate of circumcision in the United States is falling. In the 1980s up to 80% of newborn males were circumcised. By 2007, less than 40% of newborn males were circumcised.

Is circumcision mutilation?

Yes and no. Circumcision is done for health and religious reasons, but it could be considered mutilation if it's not done properly or if is not medically indicated or required by one's religion. Circumcision is sometimes but rarely medically indicated, and it is almost never medically indicated for newborns. There is no immediate medical justification for routine circumcision; that's why medical plans do not cover it. Always get opinions from physicians when it comes to medical procedures.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has advised that the benefits of circumcision are not significant enough to recommed it as a routine procedure?

Well they're right. There are no reasons except forimediate medical problems and religious ones to perform circumcisions. I live in Sweden and here in Europe it's only done for those reasons. I've heard people say it's hard to clean but that is not true. Not harder then for us women. The foreskin is there for a reason which is to protect. It's not done as a routine anywhere in this world.

How Much Does It cost for your 1 year old son to get a circumcision in Fresno?

Circumcision is not covered by health insurance as it is not a medically necessary procedure so you will have to pay for the full cost yourself out of pocket. Circumcision with general anesthesia, which must be used when circumcising a 1 year old child, should cost between $2000 and $3000. This includes the doctor performing the procedure and the anesthesiologist. Circumcision of adults is less expensive, as adults can opt to have only local anesthesia. Circumcision has no known medical benefit, and most doctors recommend against routine infant circumcision. Circumcision, like all surgeries, has risks of adverse medical events including surgical error, prolonged bleeding, infection, and pain. A permanent decrease in penile sensitivity and sexual pleasure is also common since circumcision removes the foreskin, which protects the sensitive glans (head) of the penis. Circumcision is extremely rare in the world outside the United States. Circumcision was once routine in the United States, but this trend has reversed as parents and doctors are increasingly deciding against infant circumcision. In 1980 over 80% of newborns in the United States were circumcised while in 2007 less than 40% of infants were circumcised.

Which part is commonly circumcised?

he word circumcision means "to cut around". In male infants, circumcision is a surgical operation which involves tearing the foreskin away from the glans (head) of the penis, clamping it and cutting it off. There are several techniques in use, including one (Plastibel) that is intended to slowly strangle the foreskin, but they all involve cutting, blood and removal of sensitive tissue. The skin of the penis is a complex movable sheath with no clear indication of where it should be cut during a circumcision. This means that the amount of foreskin removed from one operation to the next can be very different, and no two circumcisions are the same.Does any medical organizations recommend the circumcision of boys?No medical organizations anywhere in the world recommends routine circumcision of boys. Many organizations state that there is no medical indication for routine circumcision, including the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the British Medical Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

How much does it cost for an adult to get circumcised?

Circumcision with general anesthesia should cost between $2000 and $3000 depending on where you live. This cost includes the doctor performing the procedure and the anesthesiologist. As circumcision is not a medically necessary procedure, it will not be covered by most health insurance plans so you will have to pay for the full cost yourself. Circumcision has no known medical benefit, and routine circumcision is not recommended by any major medical association. Most doctors recommend against circumcision because of the possible adverse events following the surgery, including prolonged bleeding, infection, moderate to severe pain, and long term decrease in penile sensitivity and sexual pleasure.

Can an ordinary doctor do circumcision?

Technically yes, any doctor can do a circumcision. However, it is a delicate procedure, and a mistake can have catostrophic results, including damage to the penis, bleeding, infection, and pain. Every year in the United States, there are small number of deaths resulting from circumcision, due mostly to infection, and there a small number of major surgical errors including accidential partial amputation of the penis. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Urologists, both recommend that circumcision be performed only be doctors familiar with the procedure. The American Academy of Pediatrics has stated that there is no need for routine infant circumcision.

How much does a circumcision cost in Arizona for age 2?

Circumcision with general anesthesia should cost between $2000 and $3000. This includes the doctor performing the procedure and the anesthesiologist. Circumcision of adults is less expensive, as adults can opt to have only local anesthesia. However, if you are 15, I would advise you to wait a few more years before you consider having a circumcision. Often teen age boys are uncomfortable with being uncircumcised and request circumcision for cosmetic reasons. In my practice, I've found that young men who are circumcised for cosmetic reasons sometimes regret their decision later, not only because of the pain and discomfort associated with the recovery, but also because they realize their reasons for circumcision were more to "fit in" than for any other reason. In 1980 over 80% of newborns in the United States were circumcised while in 2007 less than 40% of infants were circumcised. If you are 15 and you have phimosis, a tight foreskin that can not be retracted, I'd suggest that you consult a urologist who can prescribe a steroid cream (like hydrocortisone) which can be used during stretching exercised to help expand the opening of the foreskin. In my experience, this works in most cases and patients are able to avoid the discomfort and possible complications of circumcision.
