Sugar molecules are bonded together by a process called dehydration synthesis.
They break down in a process called hydrolysis, in which the molecules separate into smaller sugar molecules by the addition of water.
Glycolysis literally means "splitting sugars." Glucose, a six carbon sugar, is split into two molecules of a three carbon sugar. In the process, two molecules of ATP and two "high energy" electron carrying molecules are produced. Glycolysis can occur with or without oxygen. In the presence of oxygen, glycolysis is the first stage of cellular respiration. Without oxygen, glycolysis allows cells to make small amounts of ATP. This process is called fermentation.
The process is dehydration+synthesis.
The sugar molecules of the sugar cube move from their dropage point, which is in a high concentrated area, to the rest of the tea's lower concentrated area in which their are less sugar molecules. This process creates equalibrium's and is called diffusion - the process in which molecules move from an area of higher concentration to an are of lower concentration. (M.D.)
I'm not aware of a specific name for simple sugar->complex carbohydrate conversion. But I know that it is a form of condensation polymerisation - when water is removed from the sugar molecules they join together to fill up vacant chemical bondsS. Syhnthesis Hydration is the process in which a water molecule is removed from two sugar molecules to bond into one complex molecule. The opposite of this process would be called Hydrolisis which would be when water molecules would be added to a complex molecule to create two simple sugar molecules.
The first stage of the breakdown of sugar molecules for energy is glycolysis. The sugar molecules are broken down by enzymes, releasing energy in the process.
ATP and NADPH novanet :)
When two glucose molecules are chemically bonded together, they form a water molecule and sugar maltose. This process is called dehydration synthesis.
dehydration synthesis
Inverted sugar is sweeter than sugar because upon splitting the sucrose molecules into 2 molecules, one of fructose and one of glucose, the concentration of sugar molecules doubles (i.e. 1 pound of sucrose -> 1 pound glucose + 1 pound frucose = 2 pounds sugars).
plants "pipes" that transports sugar molecules are called phloem
