I have three gerbils and I think this is the proper way to take care of them:
- Make sure they always have fresh water
- Give them food every day
- Give them something to entertain themselves with ( toy, wheel, ball, etc. )
- Socialize with them to get them to know you and active
- Keep their cage closed ( Give them different amounts of space in the cage depending on how many you have )
- Clean their cage regularly
The last thing depends on if you already have your gerbils. If you already have gerbils ignore this last comment, but if you don't already have gerbils you should know that gerbils do better ingroups than alone so you should get at least two. Don't get ones from different litters though. Get ones from the same litter that already know each other and get along.
