All mammals and marsupials have them. They are made from a fatty tissue that is capable of producing milk or lactating when you are about to give birth. Baby mammals feed on milk produced by the mammary glands and it has all the nutrients they need to grow as well as things that help them fight disease. The mother can continue to produce milk as long as the baby continues to feed. In some cultures children are fed milk in this way for several years.
