Also called a frequency guard band, a narrow frequency band between adjacent channels in multiplexing that is kept unused to prevent the channels from overlapping and causing crosstalk among modulated signals. Guard bands are commonly used in FDM but are also used in any data transmission method that relies on frequencies.

What is the difference between the military color guard and marching band color guard?

A military color guard is, generally speaking, armed and carries with it the national colors of the country it represents. A marching band color guard is, generally speaking, not armed and carries with it flags, sabers, and wooden rifles used for spinning as an accent in a performance.

What is the purpose of a Color Guard?

The purpose is to spin flags or dance to music in a way that tells a story (in some cases). The guard's show basically goes along with the music in a creative way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUKw1cvsNz0 Here's my color guard if you want to see a guard show. --It can also be used in presenting the colors for military use (which is the one you're most likely referring to, the person who answered previously was talking about marching band colorguard). There are usually the flag bearers and guards (who handle rifles to protect the flag) and they would present the colors during a ceremony, usually in the beginning, which means honoring the American flag and the military branch they are honoring to. (I would only know this because I do marching band colorguard AND AFJROTC Drill Team colorguard for my high school)
