∙ 11y agoSometimes a species becomes extinct in an area. This is called extirpation. Reintroduction is when people take an animal and reintroduce it to an area where it was extirpated. For example, the bison was extirpated in Montana until last year when a herd of them were reintroduced. Theoretically, if an extinct species such as the woolly mammoth or the Tasmanian tiger were to be cloned and brought back from extinction, it could be reintroduced to its native habitat.
