In astronomy retrograde is essentially a fancy astronomical way of saying backward/ opposite rotational spin. A body is said to have retrograde motion when it rotates in a direction opposite to the body it orbits. I.E. The Sun rotates counterclockwise. Venus has retrograde motion in relation to the Sun because it rotates clockwise.

In astrology retrograde refers to the apparent backward motion of a body in the sky due to the Earth overtaking it in orbit about the Sun. Retrograde planets are said to express themselves more internally in a natal chart and in transit indicate periods when the affairs they relate to may resurface to be resolved at a later period when the planet goes direct.

Which terrestrial planet has retrograde spin?

Venus is the terrestrial planet with retrograde spin, meaning it rotates on its axis in the opposite direction to most other planets in our solar system.

Is Pluto a retrograde rotation planet?

It is a Dwarf planet that has a retrograde axial spin or rotation. Clockwise from above its north pole.

A planet that appears to spin counterclockwise when viewed from its north pole has?

It has a retrograde rotation.

How does Venus rotate on its axis?

It has a retrograde spin, spinning in the opposite direction to most other planets.

What is venus 's spin example of?

Venus has a slow retrograde rotation, meaning it spins in the opposite direction of most planets. The exact reason for this unique spin is not fully understood, but it may have been caused by a collision with a large object in the past.

When a planet that appears to spin counterclockwise when viewed from its north pole has what kind of rotation?

Any planet, moon or object that rotates in the opposite to us (Well we have to have a common denominator) is said to be in retrograde rotation (or retrograde motion) But most objects in the solar system appear to spin counterclockwise when viewed from above the north pole, so this is normal rotation, not retrograde.

What is counterclockwise spin of a planet or moon called?

The counterclockwise spin of a planet or moon is called retrograde rotation. This means the object is rotating in the opposite direction of its orbit around another body, like a planet rotating against the direction of its orbit around the sun.

What planet rotates retrograde motion?

Both Venus and Uranus have a retrograde axial spin, they rotate clockwise when viewed from above their north pole. All of the other planets rotate anticlockwise (counter clockwise).

Why do all planets spin the same direction?

They don't. Uranus spins on a "sideways" axis with retrograde spin. Venus also has a retrograde spin. Most spin in the same direction though. This is probably because of how the Solar System was formed, from a spinning disc of material.

Do all planets rotate in a counterclockwise direction as seen from far above the Earth's north pole?

This is known as prograde rotation, all of the planets spin in this direction apart from Venus and Uranus. Venus and Uranus spin clockwise when viewed from above the north pole, this is known as a retrograde spin.

What word means to orbit in the opposite direction to the norm for planets?

The normal orbit of planets and moons is in the same direction as the spin of the parent body. The particular norm in our solar system is counter-clockwise. Planets or moons that orbit in the reverse direction (clockwise) are termed retrograde. Confusingly, the same term (retrograde rotation) is used to mean clockwise spin or rotation.

Which planets have retrograde rotation?

Venus and Uranus are the two planets in our solar system known to have retrograde rotation, meaning they rotate in the opposite direction to the majority of planets. Venus rotates very slowly in a retrograde direction, while Uranus rotates on its side with a retrograde tilt.
